I think it may be of interest to you,
particularly in connection with the question of Civil
Service Salaries and of High Cost of Living Allowances
locally, to know the figures which have been produced for us
by the Inland Revenue Department. On the basis of assessments
for Salaries Tax for the past year, the average income for a
Government servant within the taxation range is $14,234; that
for a salaried person outside Government service is $23,507.
The corresponding figures before the war,
2.
according to a report furnished by the Commissioner of War
Taxation in 1941, were $10,161 and $12,348.
